Officers with jobs in environmental health have been involved in a meeting to investigate allegations that a waste company ignored fire fighters' requests.
The Northern Echo reported how Albert Hill Skip Hire continued to bring material onto the site while fire fighters were trying to put out a blaze which lasted for four days.
A recent meeting in which officers with jobs in environmental health, as well as NHS Darlington and the council's planning department attended, revealed that the fire fighters banned the company from bringing more waste onto the site.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue's Alan Kernohan told the newspaper: "We had to speak to the owner twice and then present him with an enforcement action during the fire to stop that person bringing material on site."
One resident added that during the blaze, air quality dropped so much that health professionals advised them to move out of the area, sparking a campaign against the company.
This is likely to be a concern for environmental health officers as one of their main objectives is to make sure that air pollution in the area does not reach dangerous levels.
