A recent arson attack on a derelict pub in Stoke-on-Trent has come to the attention of people with environmental health jobs in the area.
The Blythe Spirit pub in Weston Coyney has been subject to a series of arson crimes since it closed six years ago, residents told The Sentinel.
As well as arsonists, fly-tippers and vandals have made this property an eyesore.
In July 2010, 619 locals handed in a petition to the local authority, calling for the building to be destroyed, with one resident suggesting that it must have cost the local authority more than £100,000 to deal with over the last few years.
Gillian Philpott told the newspaper that police, fire and environmental health call-outs have taken valuable resources, money and services from the council.
Another petition was recently handed to council members on the Isle of Wight, calling for the island's Shanklin Fire Station to remain open.
More than 5,000 supporters stated that the fire station should not be victim to public spending cuts.
