The use of covert surveillance techniques has seen those with environmental health jobs investigate the illegal depositing of inert waste in Essex.
Officers from the Environment Agency worked alongside the county's police force to carry out a dawn raid at a site in Orsett, after they became suspicious aggregates were being unlawfully extracted and that the holes this created were illegally filled with waste.
Leading the raid, the Environment Agency's Berwyn Williams stated: "Construction and demolition waste must be dealt with properly by operators who work within the law to ensure that neither the environment nor the local community is harmed by the operation."
A 39-year-old man has since been arrested and released on bail.
It was recently revealed that the agency closed down a Rettendon site as it was found to contain hundreds of scrap vehicle containing dangerous substances such as brake fluid and oil.
