Officers with jobs in environmental health in Northern Ireland are investigating the outbreak of E. coli at a nursery school.
To date, 12 children from Holly House nursery in Dollingstown, near Lurgan, have been confirmed to have contracted the bug.
Operations manager Audrey McCracken stated that in the interests of the children, the nursery has closed until environmental health officers determine the cause of the epidemic.
The Public Health Agency's (PHA) Dr Neil Irvine confirmed that "all appropriate infection control measures are being taken".
Craigavon Borough Council's Environmental health inspectors are working closely with the PHA to eliminate the cause of the bacteria.
A primary school in Cork in the Republic of Ireland also has to cope with an outbreak after 25 cases of tuberculosis were confirmed over the last few weeks.
Ballintemple National School had five pupils with active conditions and 20 with latent cases of the disease, while more than 120 students and staff were tested by the Health Service Executive.
