Staff in environmental health jobs have seen their recommendation that an application for a harbour to continue operating on selected Sundays is refused backed by councillors.
The environmental health department for the Ross, Skye and Lochaber region had opposed the application for Annat Pier on Loch Linnhe to open on six Sundays a year on the grounds of the noise caused at the site, reports the Press and Journal.
A council area planning committee debated the application before voting to turn it down.
Cllr Isobel McCallum said: "I think the important statistics are that for six days a week - from 6am to 10pm - there is noise in this area and not a lot of escape."
She stated it was important to give local residents "one day of peace".
Last month, staff in environmental health jobs won a victory against noise pollution by seizing stereos, televisions and computers from a rowdy student property in Egham, reported Staines News.
