A person who has a job in environmental health has been praised after revealing illegal levels of smoke coming from an industrial site in Widnes.
The environmental health officer noticed a dark plume of smoke coming from Halton Concrete's site last March, which she believed to be breaching the Clean Air Act 1993.
After taking photographs and video footage of fire and smoke coming from the area, the company was taken to court, the Runcorn and Widnes World reported.
Kenneth Hulme, 66, and Derek Hulme, 39, were prosecuted, pleading guilty to breaching the environmental health legislation.
Earlier this week, a court fined them each £500 and ordered them to pay £147.50 in costs.
This success could lead to a promotion of the importance of environmental health jobs, as it is one of their main objectives to monitor and help reduce the pollution levels of a local area including the effects of air quality.
