A community in Inverness has called upon officers with jobs in environmental health after suffering a vandalised sewage system.
Repairs were needed to be made on sewage pipes at Stratherrick Public Hall after vandals deliberately damaged them earlier this month and caused the pipes to burst, the Inverness Courier reported.
After flooding the local land with wastewater, the Highland Council's environmental health officials were called in.
They demanded that work be carried out to repair the pipes immediately as the leaking sewage could cause potential health risks to the public.
Speaking to the paper, hall chairman Hugh Nicol said: "[Water] overflowed at the back of the hall with pretty foul water floating on the ground."
The damage has cost the hall's management committee £2,000 to repair and there are discussions that CCTV cameras will be put into place to prevent the problem occurring in the future.
Environmental health officers in Bristol also had to deal with a sewage leak earlier in July after residents complained about a "pungent" smell, the BBC reported.
