People in environmental health jobs with Basildon and Chelmsford Councils could be set to work together, it has been suggested.
It has been proposed that the two departments merge, leading to efficiency savings that will help stave off the threat of redundancies for those in environmental health jobs with both local authorities
Other services, including waste collection, planning and council tax collection could also be joined together under the plans, reports the Chelmsford Weekly News.
Roy Whitehead, leader of Chelmsford Council, said that it was important to act with cuts in government funding highly likely after the general election.
"Saving money through sharing certain services could safeguard jobs," he said.
Earlier this month, Rother District Council agreed a three per cent council tax rise - a move it said will help to ensure that those in environmental health jobs within the organisation do not have to see cuts made to their budget.
