People with jobs in environment and sustainability in Essex have been trying to encourage residents to change their travel habits in a bid to be more eco-friendly.
Colchester Council has announced a whole month of special events will be taking place, with particular focus on the use of public transport between September 20th and October 1st 2010.
Lyn Barton, councillor for planning and sustainability, said: "The council is committed to changing travel behaviour and seeks to increase walking, cycling and the use of public and community transport."
She added that the events are intended for the residents to "find out what's going on and what's already available" in the area.
The local authority's Cycle Colchester has also been trying to encourage people to ditch their cars in favour of their bikes in order to improve the environment.
As part of its campaign, it has invested £4.2 million in developing better cycle networks, signage and maps in the area.
It aims to increase the number of residents cycling regularly by 75 per cent between July 2009 and 2011.
