Environment and sustainability-focused politicians have outlined new guidelines for the Green Deal in a bid to protect the best interests of consumers.
The code, put forward by climate change minister Greg Barker, will set out to care for customers during the process of adopting a low-carbon lifestyle.
Ensuring the best interests of the public, from initial assessments to the installation of energy-saving technology, regulations will ensure officials carry out work to the highest standards.
A new Green Deal advice line will also be launched to offer impartial advice to members of staff working on behalf of the scheme.
Audrey Gallacher, head of energy at Consumer Focus, said: "Government and industry need to focus on winning the trust and confidence of consumers by ensuring good standards of advice, support and consumer protections whoever supplies the services."
Responding to the proposals, the CBI has stressed the importance of creating policies to drive demand for energy-efficient products.
