People with jobs in environment and sustainability have highlighted the importance of lowering carbon emissions in city centres.
Energy consultancy Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has urged the government to take increased action in a bid to protect future developments in the UK.
This comes after the company claimed low carbon cities are the only answer to ensure a sustainable future.
Specialists in sustainable building and design at SKMFrank Mills and Rebecca Warren argued that the country needs to work as a whole to ensure the environment is protected.
Ms Warren said: "The only logical conclusion has to be that we must prepare for the inevitable move away from fossil fuels.
"A low carbon future is not only the best way forward, but the only way."
SKM aims to develop projects that adhere to sustainable guidelines in social, economic and environmental results.
The organisation works on a wide range of projects while maintaining environment and sustainability as its main priority.
