Business leaders who want to promote environment and sustainability should appropriately educate their staff about the issue, an expert has claimed.
Paul Edwards, from the British Council for Offices (BCO), has urged management teams to offer guidance to workforces about lowering carbon emissions in the workplace.
The head of the BCO's Environmental Sustainability Group advised office employees to take simple measures in a bid to increase energy efficiency.
He said: "Get people to turn off the lights, turn off their computers, turn off printers at night, turn off machinery and equipment that doesn't have to run."
Mr Edwards also made reference to previous research that claimed between ten and 20 per cent of energy could be saved by simply altering the behaviour of staff.
In addition, the BCO recommends making small changes to air conditioning temperature levels in a bid to promote energy efficiency in offices.
Mr Edwards said that increasing the temperature of the coolers by just two degrees could greatly reduce carbon emissions.
