A Chinese takeaway in Birmingham has been allowed to stay open despite a large-scale environmental health job revealed serious hygiene problems.
Yesterday (July 20th), Birmingham Crown Court sentenced owner of restaurant Golden Bowl in Weoley Castle to a community order, the Birmingham Mail reported.
However, Miao Shen, 27, was allowed to keep her business open after the judge heard that she and her children would be homeless otherwise.
This comes after the environmental health officers from Birmingham City Council found a number of hygiene offences when they visited last July - six of which Ms Shen admitted herself.
Prosecutor Simon Mortimer said that the inspectors had found that food was being prepared at the takeaway in "filthy conditions".
The environmental health officers also discovered prawns defrosting in a sink and that people had been sleeping next to raw chicken.
Ms Shen is not the first catering business to come under criticism lately after Islam Rahman, owner of a food warehouse in Belfast, was fined £600 for hygiene legislation breaches.
