People with jobs in environment and sustainability have been put under increased pressure by government alterations to energy policy, experts have suggested.
According to the CBI, changes to current regulations have placed investors in uncertain situations about the future of the industry.
The comments come after politicians increased cost pressure on energy-intensive sectors by raising taxes on companies using high levels of resources.
John Cridland, director general of the business group, criticised the government's need to create revenue from businesses' efforts to become sustainable.
He added: "At a time when rebalancing of the economy needs UK manufacturing to be playing a bigger role, energy-intensive industrial users need more help. But the Budget unilaterally increased their cost base."
The CBI recently called for the government to take advantage of positive features concerning competition in UK business and urged politicians to create fast-reacting changes to the system.
In response to a recent consultation from the Department for Business, the group suggested that strategies need to deliver consistent outcomes.
