Those with environmental health jobs at one local authority are taking steps to ensure that workmen carrying out digital television upgrade work do so in a safe manner.
Ric Pallister, environmental health portfolio holder for South Somerset District Council, reveals that the public sector body will be working alongside colleagues from the Health and Safety Executive to ensure that tradespeople fitting satellite dishes and aerials in the area are staying safe.
"We want to encourage safe installation work and this means we will be expecting TV shops and their installers as well as independent installers to be working safely in our area," he states.
The authority also points out that the initiative will look to tackle rogue traders, who - in an effort to take advantage of the digital changeover - will put others at risk by fitting equipment in an unsafe manner.
And those with trading standards jobs could be interested to note recommendations by the authority that people check that any work done on their homes is carried out by "a competent, qualified and registered installer".
Meanwhile, the council's enforcement team recently reminded residents that those who pay someone to get rid of rubbish on their behalf could face a fine of up to £5,000 if it turns out their waste is disposed of illegally.
