A body representing professionals in town planning jobs has declared its disappointment with this week's Budget.
Ann Skippers, president of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), said that while her organisation recognises the need for the government to cut the UK's deficit, it is also concerned about the lack of attention paid to the role of its members.
"It is disappointing that the Budget shows little appreciation of the very positive impact and key role planning and planners' skills have to play in fostering economic recovery [and] job creation," she stated.
Ms Skippers urged the government to ensure it recognises "the vital importance of strategic planning" in its policies in the future, while working alongside staff in town planning jobs to address the needs of the UK.
Earlier this month, the RTPI said that plans to cut the Housing and Planning Delivery Grant funding will make it harder for councils to prepare development policies for their region.
