Bristol trading standards staff warn residents over bogus charities
A counterfeit charity headquarters in Bristol has been raided by police officers following a trading standards job.

Sparco allegedly sent charity bags to homes in south-west England, Wales and the Midlands in a bid to keep donations intended for good causes, BBC News reports.

Two homes in the Horfield area of Bristol were raided after council officials received more than 100 complaints about receiving bags from the company.

Bags labelled 'Bernhados' and 'Breast Cancer' were reportedly viewed with suspicion by residents who confused the first organisation with children's charity Bernado's.

Alan Evans of Scambusters said: "These people fleece genuine charities of vital contributions to help their worthwhile causes from very generous members of the public."

This news comes after a charity officer in the Black Country was sent to prison for swindling more than £26,000, the Express and Star reports.

Hayley Jones altered cheques sent to the Open College Network by writing her own name on them and then paying them into her bank account.
