Businesses should increase the temperature of air conditioning in a bid to improve environment and sustainability, an expert has suggested.
Paul Edwards, chair of the British Council for Offices' (BCO) environmental sustainability group, has advised businesses to reduce energy consumption by making small changes in the workplace.
This comes after researchers from Lloyds TSB revealed 30 per cent of small businesses had reported growth after adopting eco-friendly office methods.
Mr Edwards acknowledged air conditioning technology is a significant consumer of energy and urged business owners to take action.
He added: "Can you ramp it up to 24 degrees? It's comfortable - people can operate at 24 degrees perfectly fine. Most offices are set at 20, 21 or 22 degrees."
Findings from the Lloyds TSB study also revealed that 37 per cent of businesses had been able to improve colleague relationships by taking action to lower carbon emissions.
In addition, 33 per cent had managed to retain clients and contracts by demonstrating efforts to improve energy efficiency.
